So what is 21st Century Learning and what is a 21st Century Learner?
At Wyong Public School we believe that;
"21st century learning connects students’ learning with real life and provides them with the necessary skills to prepare them for success"
and
"Every child should reach their full potential and this means both content mastery, as well as mastery of the “Five Cs” for K-12 Education:
• critical thinking
• communication
• collaboration
• cooperation
• creativity
One way that we like to foster 21st Century Learning in S23K is by the careful design of our classroom, which is a lovely example of a flexible learning environment. Have you ever taken a peek inside the offices of Google around the world? Is it any wonder that these offices are where great ideas are born, take shape and change our world?
Just like the Google offices, our classroom environment allows movement throughout the day to ensure that we all get to communicate and cooperate with our classmates on various tasks, sharing our expertise and ideas with one another. With the introduction of circular tables this year, as well as comfy couches and beanbags, we're really aiming to be the Wyong Public School version of Google HQ!
No more desks in rows, no more teachers desk . . . we're even breaking down our walls and making our classroom flat - we are global collaborators after all :-)
What is your favourite 'space' in our classroom? Where would you do your best collaborating, communicating, creating, cooperating or critical thinking?
