Last week, Aboriginal Artist Brett Parker from Billyara Aboriginal Art came to visit Wyong Public School. He met the whole school in our assembly hall and showed us some of his amazing artworks that he has created for exhibitions and for commercial use. He also has a Facebook page for your parents to follow! Brett visited our classroom to support us to create our own Aboriginal artworks in preparation for NAIDOC week, which we will observe in Week 9 of this term. He explained the importance of using the correct techniques, materials and effects to create effective works of art, which also tell important stories. We then went on to create some of our own artworks, many of which are still in progress. Here are some of our masterpieces for you to enjoy! Mrs Gennari has got the unenviable task of choosing a few of these artworks to be judged in a competition for NAIDOC week. It's going to be such a tricky decision! Which one is your favourite so far?

Last Friday, we had the privilege of working with Marc from Wyong Council, who presented a great workshop that reminded us about the benefits of disposing of our waste appropriately. Did you know that worms LOVE tea bags? YES! Worms love to eat the tea leaves, the bag, the string AND the paper tag. In fact, here is a great easy guide to keeping a worm farm. A great way to recycle food waste and help our gardens to grow healthy and strong plants! We also got to play a game by sorting different rubbish items into the red, green or yellow bins and also placing some food waste into the worm farm. There were only a few slip ups, so we were lucky to have council officers Bella and Richard on the job to sort out the waste to the right places! It's sometimes hard to remember what goes in which bin, so here are some great guides to help you. Waste management is everyone's business, not just Wyong Council. If we all take responsibility, we can reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill and ensure that our earth is managed well for future generations.
Just when you thought we'd had enough fur friend visitors in S23K, they kept coming! Tia brought in her sweet wee guinea pigs to visit us and then, Savannah brought her new kitten Nala to visit. Remember Simba? Now he has a lovely little friend to keep him company when Savannah is at school. Check out our gallery of furry fabulousness!
Does anyone think that we might be getting a class pet soon? |
